PREPARE FOR YOUR APPOINTMENT

What to bring

Every return is different, but gathering these common items in advance can help make your appointment smoother.

Photo identification for the taxpayer and spouse, when applicable.
Social Security numbers or taxpayer identification information for everyone included on the return.
W-2s, 1099s, retirement statements, and other income documents.
Records of estimated federal and Georgia tax payments made during the year.
Mortgage interest, property tax, charitable contribution, and other deduction records that may apply to you.
Education, childcare, health coverage, or other documents relevant to credits or deductions you may claim.
Business income and expense records if you are self-employed or own a business.
A copy of your prior-year tax return if Emerson Accounting did not prepare it.
Bank routing and account information if you want direct deposit or electronic payment.
Any IRS or Georgia Department of Revenue notices you received during the year.
Your situation may require additional documents. If you are unsure whether something is needed, bring it or contact Emerson Accounting before your appointment.

Dates worth putting on the calendar

These are common individual filing and estimated-payment dates. Special rules, weekends, holidays, extensions, and disaster relief can affect deadlines.

2025 Individual Returns Filed in 2026

  • April 15, 2026
    Federal individual return and payment deadline.
  • April 15, 2026
    Georgia individual income tax return deadline.
  • October 15, 2026
    Federal filing deadline for many taxpayers who timely requested a six-month extension. An extension to file does not extend the April payment deadline.

2026 Estimated Federal Tax Payments

  • April 15, 2026
    First estimated payment.
  • June 15, 2026
    Second estimated payment.
  • September 15, 2026
    Third estimated payment.
  • January 15, 2027
    Fourth estimated payment.
